In 2013, I returned to the classroom after a 6 year baby "break" complete with subbing, dayhoming and all sorts of other jobs. I was scared, and desperate to find resources as my position had me working at a school catering to the central Alberta Native Communities. I heard about the versatility of lapbooks and loved the idea of integrating artistic creativity with socials and science content. I bought one from a TPT seller and was so frustrated with its lack of clarity and the fact that it didn't really cover the curriculum the way I needed it too. So the brainwave hit that I could probably make one myself. My very first Lapbook was "Athenian Democracy" (which has since received a complete overhaul) and my students and I started out on this adventure. I was FLOORED by the dramatic change in my students' ability to retain information that had previously eluded them. The act of physically arranging the information made it possible for them to remember it...and I was hooked. I continued to make lapbooks for the remaining grade 6 units and then started to work on science too. My colleagues started to ask questions about them and so I started to make the grade 5 content lapbooks for them as well. One of them made the comment to me "Holly, you need to sell these". And I thought maybe that could be an idea!

September 11, 2016 I uploaded my very first product...and held my breath! I was hoping to just maybe pay for my kids extra activities, but am still shocked that these little books are now covering half my mortgage!

I started making these from sheer desperation and I hope they can save you the same way they saved me!

Happy Lapbooking, Everyone!

Love,

The Lapbook Lady
